Dashlane vs. 1Password

When choosing a password, for convenience, you can use fragments of meaningful phrases in which alphabet characters are replaced with special characters or punctuation marks.

Why Is It Important to Use Dashlane or 1Password to Keep Your Passwords Safe?

Using a network of several thousand infected nodes scattered around the world, an attacker can launch a large-scale coordinated attack to reduce the efficiency or disable popular sites and services by flooding packets to the target system in order to exhaust resources and exceed the bandwidth of communication channels. Attacks with traffic volumes of several gigabits per second are not uncommon. The most commonly used flooding is UDP, ICMP, and TCP SYN; other attacks include brute force attacks and application-layer attacks.

The malicious code on the infected computer, without the knowledge and consent of the user, monitors his actions and reports to the attacker. The information contained in these reports is used for direct profit or extortion. In addition, additional software can be automatically installed on a botnet computer to track keystrokes and collect information about system vulnerabilities for the subsequent sale of this information to third parties.

To keep your passwords safe with Dashlane or 1Password, it is recommended to:

  • User passwords for access to various resources (to enter the PC operating system, information system, databases, e-mail, etc.) must be different.
  • When entering a password, the user must exclude saying it aloud, the possibility of seeing it by unauthorized persons (other employees, visitors).
  • Do not include passwords in any automated session initiation process, such as using stored macros or function keys.
  • Passwords should be changed regularly, at least once every three months, as well as in case of termination of the user’s authority (dismissal, transfer to another job, etc.) or in case of compromise of the password (if it became known to others or there is a suspicion about this).
  • An urgent (unscheduled) full change of passwords should be carried out in the event of termination of powers (dismissal, transfer to another job, etc.) of administrators of the information system and other employees who, by the nature of their work, were given the authority to manage the password protection system.

Password Manager Comparison: Dashlane vs. 1Password

Like 1Password, Dashlane has a user-friendly Web 2.0 interface with many similar features such as syncing, password auditing, automatic password change, and alerts in case of security breaches. Dashlane, however, has definitely topped the pack in a good interface department – 1Password had a functional but very dated interface for years. Dashlane was a much better app until late 2015 when 1password sale finally refreshed its interface.

Browser extensions have much narrower functionality. However, the main functions work – this is showing a list of sites for which passwords have already been set, and automatically filling out forms when entering such sites. It is possible to use the function of the password generator, which has fine settings, allowing you to use well-protected passwords when creating new accounts. The browser extension can be disabled if third parties are supposed to work on your computer.

The similarities that combine those services are:

  1. Storing passwords.
  2. Autocomplete.
  3. Favorites.
  4. Generation of passwords.
  5. Offline access.
  6. Access restriction.
  7. Protected notes.

Malicious code on an infected computer can automatically download, install and display pop-ups with advertisements depending on the pages viewed by the user on the Internet or regularly open certain websites in the browser.
